Poker Strategy

Poker is NOT an easy card game – a rich world of statistics, strategy and psychology that takes various forms and can NOT be quickly or easily summarized. There are, however, some basic tenets which can guide players away from the myths and money-spinning schemes, toward a tailored and profitable strategy.
The first step in playing poker is to decide which form you want to play.
Texas Hold ‘em and Omaha are the most popular forms of community card poker. Two cards are dealt and the remaining three selected from a pot of five cards in the middle of the table. Players bet after seeing their two cards (the ante) and can increase their stake, check or fold after each turn of a card. This gives significant control over playing style, and the amount of money risked on a hand.
Simpler types that beginners should consider are straight poker, in which a full hand is dealt, and draw poker, in which players can discard unwanted cards to try and gain a better hand from a new deal.
1. Playing the stats
Assessing the probability of a winning hand is the first big decision in any game, and I would say the most important. Below are the winning poker hands in order from lowest to highest:
• High card
• Pair
• Two Pair
• Three of a kind
• Straight (eg. 6, 7, 8, 9, 10)
• Flush (five cards of the same suit)
• Full house (a pair and a three of a kind)
• Four of a kind
• Straight flush
• Royal flush (a straight flush from 10 to Ace)
Playing bad hands to the end is the quickest way to lose money, so do NOT be frightened of folding.
2. Controlling the game
The main way to control a poker game is by betting strategically.
The button denotes who posts the big blind (a mandatory initial stake) and who posts the small blind (half the big blind). Players in these positions are already invested in the hand and may wish to play differently, especially since they will bet first on each turn and can effectively pressure other players.
Folding loses your entire stake, but protects you from further losses. A conservative strategy would be to fold on all but the best hands because if you do NOT, you will be sure to be a loser!
Checking means sticking with your current bet, not raising or folding. This is useful when you are looking to entice rivals into betting, or when you simply want to wait for the next card without risking any more money.
Raising means increasing the stakes. This is a great move to bring more money into a game and helps to maximize winnings from a good hand. This is also the way to bluff, but this is a much more risky strategy.
3. Knowing your opponent
Finding “tells” is tough, but tracking how regularly players bet, fold, bluff etc can be used to determine a counter strategy over the course of a poker session

Keeneland Race Track

Although, Churchill Downs may be the center of attraction when it comes to American thoroughbred racing, the horse racing true capital is Keeneland. This racetrack is also in the state of Kentucky.
Lexington suddenly found itself without a racetrack when the century old Kentucky Association course in 1933 closed, an unthinkable situation for Thoroughbred City. Jack Keene who already had a stylish private track and stables on his property opened as a non-profit community venture of horse racing in 1936. Yes, a non-profit, as it remains today under the stewardship of Keeneland Association Inc.
Keeneland looks much today like it did in the ’30s, which is why the 2003 movie Seabiscuit was filmed here. However, there has been one important change since that movie came out: the 8.5-furlong dirt oval was re- surfaced with Polytrack in 2006. You will also find a 7.5-furlong turf oval in addition to the gorgeous Keeneland Library, which counts the entire Daily Racing Form archive among its important collections from the sport’s rich history.
Keeneland offers many of the best horse racing meets in the country. Eleven Grade 1 stakes races are run every year at Keeneland, including the $750,000 Blue Grass Stakes (nine furlongs, dirt, 3-year-olds) during the April spring meet, on the road to the Kentucky Derby. In addition, Keeneland also hosts several Breeders’ Cup prep races during the fall meet in October, highlighted by the $750,000 Shadwell Turf Mile Stakes for 3-year-olds and up.

Looking To Play Pick 3 Online?

This article will provide you with information on where you can play Pick 3 online.
Benefits
There are definitely some big benefits to be gained by playing online.  This is not to say that people should avoid playing in their state, buying their own tickets from a store, because there are certainly benefits to that as well.  However, this guide is specifically for online play, so we’ll stick to presenting the benefits of online play.
The main benefits are:
The ability to place smaller bets.  You can play as little a 25 cents per ticket, as opposed to playing at a store, in               which the minimum bet is either 50 cents or a dollar, depending on what state you are playing in.
Much larger payouts.  You can get up to a 900 to 1 payout for a straight hit.  For example, if you bet $1.00 on a           number and it hits straight, you get a $900 payout.  Sweet!
  • Ability to play any state game.  Not only can you play any state game, but you can easily and quickly play any combination of state games in one fell swoop.  For example, if you want to play 1-2-3 in Georgia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, just click those state checkboxes, type the number to play, and confirm the order.

  • Do everything from your computer.  You have all your favorite spreadsheets and tools on your computer, so what better way to play?  If you generate your numbers in a computer program, now you can just copy and paste those numbers to play them, just the way it ought to be.

  • Easily manage your finances.  No more fumbling with your finances to play.  Many ways to fund you account.

  • Where to Play?
With all the scamming nonsense on the Internet, what web site can you real trust?
I have found that 5Dimes offers friendly and helpful customer service, and that they are willing to change their features to meet the needs of players.  5Dimes offers all of the benefits that I mentioned above

Powerball Lottery Tip

The Powerball Lottery game is about as close to a national lottery as you can get within the United States since most states do offer the PowerBall Lottery game.
The PowerBall Lottery drawings take place every Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 pm ET. A player can also access the winning numbers on the Powerball official website. The jackpot starts at $12,000,000 and each game costs $2 to play.
The odds against winning the grand prize of this game are so high, there often are no winners for that prize. When nobody wins the prize in PowerBall, the existing jackpot is added to the jackpot for the next drawing. Since the jackpot often “rolls over” into the next drawing, it is not uncommon for the top payout to run into the hundreds of millions of dollars.
As with other lotteries, lazy players depend solely on luck and will play a “quick pick” ticket and hope for the best. However, intelligent players will use a system that relies on playing the probable number combinations that can and do come up.
One worthy Powerball Lottery tip is to completely cover the bonus ball. However, this can be much for the average player. Thus, I recommend joining a group of friends or a PowerBall syndicate.

How To Bet On Exotics At The Horse Races

I do NOT suggest betting on exotics. Although, the practical experience you gain from learning how to bet exotics at the track, will help you hone your handicapping skills. In addition, exotic betting offers both the average and professional bettor the opportunity of making a big score.
Having the option of betting exotics at the track or online allows you to turn an otherwise unplayable race into a prime betting opportunity, by combining horses on a single ticket in the same race, or over multiple races.
CLICK TO BET ON HORSES AT THE BEST ONLINE RACEBOOK!
There are a number of different types of exotic bets offered at all major racetracks now, including single race exotic bets such as exactas, quinellas, trifectas, and superfectas, as well as multiple-race exotic wagers such as daily doubles, win threes, win fours, pick fives, pick sixes, and win or place pick alls. In my opinion, most exotic wagers are pure sucker plays while others offer legitimate and measurable value for your money.
When exotic betting first arrived at the track many good handicappers regarded it as pure folly, and they were right to a point – simply because the payoffs for the exotic bets weren’t shown on the tote board. If you thought a horse had a 2-1 shot at winning a race you could determine whether the horse was an overlay simply by looking at the tote board, where the win odds were shown throughout the betting right up until post time. If your 2-1 horse was paying off at 5/2 or better, you had yourself a prime overlay betting opportunity. If the horse was paying off at less than 2-1, it represented an underlay and didn’t deserve a bet. The point is you could determine the value of the betting proposition before you placed the bet.
CLICK TO BET ON HORSES AT THE BEST ONLINE RACEBOOK!
In today’s horse racing, payoffs for at least some of the available exotic wagers are given on the tote board. Tote boards now show the payoffs for exactas, quinellas and daily doubles right up to post time. If you like a horse you think should be 3-1 in the first leg a multiple-race exotic wager such as the daily double, and the horse is a 2-1 underlay, you might still find value in that horse by combining it with a an overlay in the second leg of the daily double. Even though the first horse is paying less than it should to win, combining it with an overlay in the second race of the daily double might produce an overlay payoff. The same can be said for exactas and quinellas, for which the payoffs are also shown on the tote board right up to post time. If you like a horse that should be 3-1 who is paying off at 2-1, you might still find value in that horse when combined in the exacta or quinella with an overlay horse.
Over time and through your experiences and betting exotics at the track or online, you will develop the ability to judge what constitutes and overlay an underlay in the exotic payoffs.
The point is that if you are a good enough handicapper to determine which horses are underlays and overlays in the win betting, you should also be able to determine what constitutes an underlay or overlay payoff in the exotic betting. Thus, learn how to handicap a horse racing bet!
If you are serious about learning how to bet exotics at the track, you should start off betting the exotics whose payouts are displayed on the tote board – the daily doubles, exactas and quinellas. As you gain experience in determining the underlays and overlays in the exotic betting pools, you will develop a better understanding of betting the blind exotics such as the trifectas and superfectas and multiple-race exotic wagers such as the win 3, win 4, pick 6 and lottery type wagers such as the win.
There are big scores to be made in both single race exotic bets such as trifectas and multiple-race exotic bets such as the win 3, win 4 and pick 6, but because the payouts for these types of exotic bets are not displayed on the tote board, you must be able to determine for yourself, which horses the public is likely to underbet and overbet, in order to estimate your chances of an overlay payoff. Thus I suggest NOT playing these bets unless you are really experienced!
Exotic bets such as superfectas and win-place pick alls should be regarded more as fun bets or action bets, and should be played with caution, due to the fact that the amount of money required to successfully cash these types of bets on a regular basis is high and more often than not leads to a large net loss overtime.
For more detailed information on how to bet exotics at the track, with regards to the actual requirements of each type of exotic bet, ticket structuring and betting strategy, please visit read the articles found on this site!

Sochi Olympics Odds

With the arrival of the Sochi games comes the return of betting on the Winter Olympics. This year’s slope style men’s snowboarding favorite is Canadian Mark McMorris, followed by country mate Maxence Parrot and American snowboarding legend Shaun White.
The official dates for the 2014 Sochi Games runs from February 7-23, many have already started betting on the Winter Olympics. We’ve been waiting four years – can you blame them?
When it comes to betting on the Sochi Games in general, sports fans are likely going to lean toward their home and native land. Oddsmakers, on the other hand, are unmoved by such biases. As a result, despite the US sending 230 athletes to the games (the most of any country), Norway is the favorite to win the most gold medals at the games.
Norway’s 23/20 odds of dominating the Olympics lead America’s 5/2 mark, Germany’s 7/1, Russia’s 9/1, Canada’s 9/1 and every other country in the world. The States, however, thanks to power in numbers, have the highest odds of winning the most Olympic medals (1/1).
Betting on Olympic events is half the fun of engaging with the Winter Games though, so betting lines exist for everything from the outright women’s luge winner to the probability of Jamaica’s fan favorite bobsled to win a medal (a ‘Yes’bet currently pays +5,000).
Most importantly, the Olympics serve as an opportunity for casual and diehard sports fans alike to give in to the temptation of watching event after event for the duration of the two-plus-week celebration.

Aqueduct Racetrack

Aqueduct Racetrack is a Thoroughbred horse-racing facility and racing in South Ozone Park, Queens, New York. Its racing meets usually are from late October/early November through April.
Aqueduct operates near the site of a former conduit of the Brooklyn Waterworks that brought water from Long Island to the Ridgewood Reservoir. Aqueduct Racetrack opened on September 27, 1894 by the Queens County Jockey Club. The facility was expanded and a new clubhouse was constructed before the 1941 summer meet. In 1955, the Greater New York Association took over Aqueduct along with Belmont Park, Saratoga Race Course, and Jamaica Racetrack, deciding to make major upgrades to Aqueduct, after which Jamaica Racetrack would be sold for redevelopment as a housing project. Aqueduct closed in 1956, reopening September 14, 1959 after $33 million of renovations designed by noted racetrack architect Arthur Froehlich of the firm Arthur Froehlich and Associates of Beverly Hills, California. The Equestris Restaurant in the clubhouse opened in 1981 and was the largest restaurant in New York City at the time. Additional renovations were made in 2001, 2006, and 2007.
Before 1976, the Inner Dirt Track was a turf course and was known as the Main Turf Course, with the present turf course being the Inner Turf Course; following the conclusion of racing in 1975 the grass on the Main Turf Course was uprooted and the Inner Dirt Track took its place to permit year-round racing.
Currently, one annual meeting is held at Aqueduct, usually from the last Wednesday in October until the the end of April. Races had been run on the Inner Dirt Track between the Wednesday after Thanksgiving until just before the Wood Memorial in recent years. Prior to 1977, a summer meeting also was held at Aqueduct, from mid-June to late July. From 1963 through 1967, races normally run at Belmont Park, including the Belmont Stakes, were run at Aqueduct while Belmont’s grandstand was being rebuilt. The Wood Memorial is Aqueduct’s the marquee race, which culminates the winter meet. The Remsen and Cigar Mile are major races that begin the winter meet. The prestigious Jockey Club Gold Cup was usually run there between 1958 and 1974, and what was perhaps the track’s most distinctive race, the marathon 2 1⁄4 miles Display Handicap, was last contested in 1990. The track played host to the second ever Breeders’ Cup on November 2, 1985.
Aqueduct is the site of the first, and presently, the only triple dead heat for win in a stakes race. In the 1944 running of the Carter Handicap, Brownie, Bossuet, and Wait A Bit hit the finish line at the same time. On April 8, 2006, during an eleven-race program at Aqueduct that included the Wood Memorial Stakes, a rare event happened when dead heats for each of the three “money” positions (Win, Place and Show) occurred in three separate races: Saint Anddan and Criminal Mind dead-heated for Place in Race 5, Naragansett and Emotrin dead-heated for Show in Race 6, and Karakorum Tuxedo and Megatrend dead-heated for Win in Race 10.

California Lottery Is Finally Booming

After years of decline, the California Lottery is booming. The jackpots are bigger, and that is drawing more players and excitement.
The turnaround is for the most part due to changes made to the lottery in 2010, when revenues were on the decline. The changes brought bigger prizes, but they also altered the formula for how much revenue schools receive.
And the long term effect of those changes is far from clear.
Before the switch, the lottery’s contribution to public education was required to be at a minimum 34% of its revenue. The percentage of money going to prizes was capped at 50%.
But some officials believed the prizes were just too small to draw more players. Thus, the state legislature’s changes gave the lottery flexibility in determining its education contribution. By doing that, it allowed the lottery to pump more of its revenues back into the prize pool, which officials say fueled the resurgence that continues today.
With lottery revenue booming, the money sent to schools has increased. In the 2011-12 fiscal year, the lottery wrote a check of $1.3 billion to California public education.
However, the gap between the share of lottery revenue going back to prizes and the percentage sent to public education is widening, according to audited financial reports the lottery publishes on its website.
In 2011 and 2012 the lottery returned 55% and 59% of its revenue back to the prize pool. However, in that same period, 32% and 30% of lottery revenue was given to schools – lower amounts than in the past!
When California voted to establish a lottery, it was done in the name of helping schools. When the lottery had its third straight year of declining revenue in 2009, Assembly Bill 142 was passed as an urgency measure because the lottery’s education funding was slipping.
Although the prize money has moved in line with the influx of new revenue, the education money has not and is not required to under the new law.
The new allocations do not explicitly state a percentage that must be given to schools, only that it must be higher than the amount given in 2009 and rise slightly every year. If neither condition is met, the allocation structure reverts to the pre-2010 percentages.
With the changes, which now mandate that at least 50% be returned to the prize pool, the lottery has seen an influx of cash. Its revenue grew 42% to top $4 billion in the two years-plus since the bill was passed.
Players have seen their potential winnings jump 59%, and retailers that provide lottery games have seen 38% more money. At the same time, education funding is up 21%.
In addition to the SuperLotto Plus game and Mega Millions, California recently joined Powerball, just in time for a record prize that nearly touched 10 digits in May.
The bill was passed with overwhelming support from the legislature. It was backed by former Supt. of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell, retailers and a company that provides lottery gaming technology.
O’Connell said that although he played no part in the drafting of the bill, he was happy to hear that the changes would result in more money for education. The changes were proposed during a time of declining state funding for schools and every bit mattered, no matter how small.
The lottery is a small part of education funding. About 1% of education funding comes from the lottery, supplementing contributions from the state’s general fund and other sources.
K-12 schools get about 80% of the share, money that does not often go to helping students. According to a recent report from the California Department of Education, most of the lottery funds given to K-12 schools are used to pay salaries and benefits.
Schools also hit the jackpot when winners do not come forward. The lottery forwards to education the cash value of any prize that goes unclaimed for 180 days. Last year alone, an extra $20 million from winners who did not cash in went to schools.
