California Chrome To Run In Santa Anita Derby This Saturday

California Chrome, who is stabled and trains at Los Alamitos Race Course, will have his final workout prior to the Santa Anita Derby on Saturday morning at approximately 8 a.m. California Chrome’s last start was an impressive win in the Grade 2, 1 1/16 miles San Felipe stakes in the second fastest clocking in the 77- year history of the prestigious prep to the $1 million Santa Anita Derby on April 5. The California-bred colt by Lucky Pulpit owned by his breeders, Perry Martin and Steve Coburn, is currently the 5-1 favorite in the latest Kentucky Derby future wager pool released.

Trained by Art Sherman, California Chrome is stabled and trains at Los Alamitos Race Course and following a 7 ¼ length victory in the San Felipe Stakes at 1 1/16th at Santa Anita, he is a legitimate Kentucky Derby contender. California Chrome was so impressive in the San Felipe that track announcer Trevor Denman called it a walkover. His victory also caught the eye of noted Daily Racing Form columnist Dick Jerardi, who featured the dazzling California Chrome with a piece in the March 14 edition of DRF.

Jerardi described California Chrome as “sensational” in the California Cup Derby and “dazzling” in the King Glorious. Jerardi would wrap up the story by stating that: “We still have almost two months to the Derby, and so much can still happen. But on this day, California Chrome is my horse.”

Following the San Felipe, California Chrome returned to his new home at Los Alamitos. He stood regal and attentive in his stall on Monday morning while awaiting the next step in his road to the Kentucky Derby.

March Madness Trends

Let’s take a look at some of the strongest trends in recent years during March Madness and how to interpret them in order to bet on this year’s tourney.

1.  Do not Get Too “Final Four Happy” With the Top Seeds – You’d have to go back to 2008 to find the last time all four No. 1 seeds—Kansas, Memphis, North Carolina and UCLA—advanced to the Final Four.  In fact, ESPN Stats & Info has recently pointed out, recent history has seen more No. 1 seeds upset in the Sweet 16 than advance to the Final Four.

2.  You Should Pick One to Win the Title – In a year that has featured tons of parity, and you should stay away from the chalk.  You would be better off picking just one or two top seeds to make it through their respective region.  Did you ever expect Wichita to do what they did?  While the tournament field tends to dwindle the amount of No. 1 seeds, it is hardly ever able to eliminate all of them.   I would suggest that you bet against a number 2 seed to even reach “sweet sixteen”.

3.  For Your Second-Round Upsets, Look to the No. 12 and 13 Seeds - Not counting the “First Four” games, number 12 seed has only won at least one contest in 23 of the past 25 tournaments.  Lately, number 13 seed has also been following number 12 seed

4.  Try not to have a bracket covered in chalk –  In four of the past five tournaments, there has been an upset in precisely 10 of the 32 second-round games.

5.  Do not pick a number 16 seed to win a game.

6.  Consider The Location And Time Of The Game

7.  Take Michigan State To At Least The ”Sweet Sixteen” –  They have advanced to the Sweet 16 in 11 of the past 16 tournaments.

8.  Pick Both Arizona And Syracuse To The “Final Four” – Arizona and Syracuse were ranked No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in the AP poll for eight consecutive weeks in the middle of the season.  Thus, it means they have already demonstrated the ability to put together a substantial winning streaks.

9.  Since 2003, the best team to bet on during March Madness has been the Xavier Musketeers.

NOTE:  Many of theses trends did not come true this year - 2014

Horse Racing Odds Explained

Understanding how horse betting odds are created and knowing which groups influence these odds will help you make better handicapping decisions and spot valuable overlays. The way to make money at horse betting is not by picking winners, but by picking winners that pay more than they should!

The odds displayed on the tote board at post time are influenced by three groups of people who are wrong 66 percent of the time. They are:

1. Morning Line Makers - This group of people that influence the odds displayed on the tote board at post time includes those who create the morning line such as public handicappers, newspaper handicapper, and the general public. These people do not consider late workouts, scratches and other changes cannot be taken into account.

2. Public Handicappers - Public handicappers working for newspapers and other off line and online publications are also influenced by the morning line – in fact those that aren’t really handicappers (and there are many) base their selections on a combination of inside tips (almost always wrong) and the aforementioned shaky morning lines. And public handicappers have a strong influence on the general betting public.

The public looks at the morning line in the program, looks at the public handicapper’s selections, sees that they are basically the same, and mistakenly assumes, these guys must know what they are talking about, and compounds the inaccuracies even further by betting more money on their selections.

3. General Public/Insider - These people create hot tips. Especially, those with a stake in the horse. These people are concerned only with their own horse and do NOT take into account the other horses in race. Many insiders think that because their exercise rider or jockey tells them that their horse worked well, that the horse will win. Thus, they tell all their close friends, who in turn tell everyone else, until all the connected money shows up at the windows.

Many bettors assume that a hot tip from someone who works with a certain horse is a good thing. A hot tip can spread like wild fire until it makes its way to the betting windows. These hot tips can come from anyone including trainers, jockeys, exercise riders, owners, grooms, and clockers . They are usually, but not always, a disaster. But why?

The Big Late Money

Many horse bettors like to watch for big money bets that occasionally flow into the mutuel pools just before post time. Many bettors believe that these big late bets are often based on superior insider information and/or information products the general public does not have access to. However, it has been statistically proven that they predict success at about the same rate as the public.

Thus, remember that it pays to do your homework and wait for the odds to work in your favor and not to follow the three groups described above.

Thus remember, that the most profitable approach is not only to become a proficient handicapper, but also to become adept at creating your own odds line.

Discover The Best Day To Play The Lottery

Winning the lottery can be easier than you think when you pair up a good strategy with a good system.  While the win rate can be as high as 98% with a lottery system, there are ways you can increase the amount of prizes or jackpots you receive in that last 2%.

One of the most effective ways is selecting the right day to play.  If you choose a day where fewer players take part, that means you will share any prizes among a smaller number of winners. That gives you a bigger slice of pie.

It is not uncommon to see a major jackpot being shared between several winners. And that can be pretty devastating when your $20 million potential win becomes just $5 million because it is shared among other winners.  One of the ways you can avoid this is by choosing a play day with a low number of participants.

If your lottery game has a selection of draw days in the week, say Wednesday and Saturday, you often find one of these days is less popular for ticket sales.  And the obvious way to find this out is to march down to your lottery store, and in the course of a casual conversation ask the staff what days are the most popular for your game.  They are likely to know more about big attendances in their store than the small ones which are harder to judge, and if you have asked right, they will gladly open up with the details.

Armed with that knowledge, you simply buy on the less popular draw days since fewer players means fewer winners.  Which in turns means more of the winning share for you!

It is sufficient to say that the craze for online lotteries has gripped all and sundry. Almost all countries have their own national lotteries. The national lotteries in the Unites States like Powerball and Mega Millions pay you handsome rewards. There is a lot of buzz regarding the two lottery companies. Together they have generated prize money in excess of $300Million dollars!. Buying online ticket from the government is a reliable source. However, while buying tickets from private sellers, you have to be guarded and must be willing to do proper research. My Top 3 Best Horse Race Tracks

Santa Anita Park – Arcadia, California
Santa Anita sits with the mountain views. It is in a perfect setting. Six winners of the West Coast race have made it to the Kentucky Derby. The Santa Anita Handicap, which features four-years-old and up, is also legendary.

The Santa Anita Park Racetrack is one of California’s oldest; starting gates and photo finishes were invented here. And, of course, remember Seabiscuit? He raced into stardom here and even though he’s no longer around, you can take your picture with his statue.

You have probably seen the Santa Anita Park Racetrack before, though you may not realize it. The track is located right outside LA, so it has been in many movies, most notably the 1930s classic A Day at the Races.

When winter hits, head to the west for Santa Anita’s perfect setting.

Churchill Downs – Louisville, Kentucky
You do not have to be an expert on equestrian sports for the Kentucky Derby to ring a bell. The Kentucky Derby is well known by many in the United States and around the world. The Kentucky Derby, is held at the Churchill Downs every first Saturday in May, is the first leg of the United States Triple Crown, so the horse that wins the blue ribbon here is destined for great things.

Lots of records have been set and lots of traditions have begun at Churchill Downs. The standard two kilometer race and the rose garland that is placed around a wining horse’s neck all at the Kentucky Derby.

Belmont Park – Elmont, New York
They say people remember the ending more than anything else, so that is probably why they remember Belmont Park since the Long Island racetrack hosts the third and final leg of the Triple Crown. However, a rocky and even schizophrenic history nearly destroyed the Belmont’s chances of becoming one of the United State’s best horse race tracks.

Belmont Park was just as well-known for its aviation tournaments as its horse races. And when anti-gambling legislation and a fire shut it down on two separate occasions, the odds did not seem to favor the Belmont re-opening.

However, it reopened in the 1960s and it has gradually gained the esteem of the horse racing industry.

Report: Colin Kaepernick Looking For $18 Million Per Year From 49ers

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is looking for $18 million per year in a long-term contract with the team.  Isn't that a pit much?  After all he did not win the championship!

Kaepernick is entering the final year of his rookie deal and is set to earn $973,766 which is high for a rookie or anyone for that matter that is entering the job market!  This is his base pay this season.  Report does say,  however, that the quarterback’s representatives say they are willing to table negotiations until after this season if the 49ers do not make a fair market offer.

The $18 million per season that Kaepernick is asking for would put his salary in line with other franchise quarterbacks.

Greyhound Handicapping Guide

Since a lot of horse bettors also bet on dogs, I thought that I would provide a brief article on betting the greyhounds that I recently read.
If you want to learn how to pick winners at the dog track, there are a few basics that help. Knowing the factors that predict which dog has the best chance of winning is the first step. There is no guarantee that the dog with the most going for it will win, but common sense and experience tells us that this is the dog that gives you the least risk for the biggest chance of a reward.
First, always take into consideration speed as factor with greyhounds. It matters more in shorter races. However, it is also a bigger factor in longer races. When you look at the dogs, if there are any whose speed figures just are not up to most of the other dogs, it is fairly safe to assume that they will not be able to keep up with the other greyhounds in the race either. They might be second or third for exotic bets like exactas, trifectas and superfectas, but it is doubtful that they will suddenly wake up and win.
Another factor to consider is class. When you risk money, it is best to risk it on what usually happens, and not what does happen once in awhile. Look for dogs that have been running in the grade of the race, or even better, in higher grade races. If they have been in faster races with better dogs, there is a really good chance that they will be better than today’s lower grade competition.
Form is another factor to consider. However, form is hard to explain and hard to find on a program. Basically, it is whether the dog is doing well right now. Dogs go in and out of form, running some good races and then running some so-so or even out of the money races, unless they are the cream of the crop at that track. Like horses, they have a cycle of wins and losses, although often it is much shorter than horses’ cycles.
I look for dogs who are getting better but have not peaked. I look back in the history of that certain greyhound and see what their form looks like over time. Do they get up to A and then drop back down to B? Or do they plateau at B and just run in the money enough to stay there without dropping down or getting graded off? With dogs, once they have climbed the grade ladder and dropped back down again and had a layoff, it is likely that they will repeat the cycle, and not exceed their highest grade.
There are other factors, of course. How is the kennel doing in general? Does the dog like its post position, if you look back over its races. What is the weather like? If it is raining, look back over the dog’s races to see if it comes in on a wet track.
When you are just starting out, it might seem overwhelming when you look at all the factors that go toward making one dog a winner. Starting with the basics i.e. speed, class and form is a good way to ease into greyhound handicapping. These factors are what most handicappers look for before placing a bet on a horse race. That is why many horse bettors also play the dogs!
Make small bets to win and place. Listen to more experienced handicappers. As always, do not risk more than you can afford to lose. And do not expect to learn the ropes overnight. It takes time and a lot of hard work to become a consistent winner at the greyhound track just like in horse betting.
