Top Picks For Belmont Stakes

California Chrome continues his improbable bid to capture the coveted Triple Crown. He is my favorite since I like the Los Alamitos Race Course!
The California-bred colt put on a pair of sparkling performances at the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes; however, his run at Belmont Park is another kind of monster.

Since Affirmed became the last Triple Crown winner in 1978, 12 other horses have entered Belmont Park with the same aspirations—none were successful.

It won’t be easy for California Chrome either, due to an extremely strong field in this year’s race.
My 3 picks to beat California Chrome for this year’s Belmont are:

1. Wicked Strong – The ability to close may be the most desired attribute in the Belmont Stakes, and there isn’t another horse in the field with more closing speed than Wicked Strong.

2. Ride On Curlin – Sharing the same kind of closing ability as Wicked Strong, Ride On Curlin put on a dazzling display in the Preakness Stakes. Coming into the final furlong, California Chrome had a two-length lead, as Ride On Curlin continued to make up ground from the outside. The two horses remained close down the final stretch, as California Chrome took the win by 1 1/2 lengths.

3. Tonalist - this horse is extremely familiar with Belmont Park, having earned a decisive victory there earlier this year at the Peter Pan Stakes. This horse is my longshot pick!
Will we see an end to the 36-year Triple Crown drought this year?

After all, California Chrome is certainly talented enough to accomplish the feat. However, breaking down his competition, it quickly becomes apparent that he will be given a run for his money.
Make your reservations today in the Vessels Club at The Home of Chrome, Los Alamitos Race Course, to enjoy the Belmont Stakes on Saturday, June 7. Watch and wager as California Chrome looks to become the first California-bred to win the Triple Crown and the first Triple Crown winner since 1978.
